You’re Invited: May 28th Town Hall

Dear Friend,

The Senate is working on a budget reconciliation bill that would send ICE and Border Patrol an additional $52 billion. I refuse to fund an agency that has murdered two Minnesotans and brutalized countless others with no accountability. ICE should not get a single cent more — we must abolish it. When this funding package comes to the House Floor, I will vote NO.

While our federal government fails, our state is standing up for our neighbors. I was proud to see Hennepin County prosecutors bring charges against the ICE agent who fired shots at a Venezuelan immigrant in Minneapolis last January. Every single ICE agent who abused their power must face consequences. Minnesotans deserve justice.

Join Me for my May Town Hall in South Minneapolis/Edina

I’m hosting my May town hall in the 50th and France area on Thursday, May 28th at 6pm CT. I will be joined by MN State Rep. Jamie Long, Edina Mayor James Hovlund, and Minneapolis City Councilmember Linea Palmisano, who will provide updates on their work at the state and local levels. At the town hall, I’ll give an update on my work in Congress, share the casework services my office can provide, and answer your questions.

Leading the Charge to Decriminalize Marijuana Nationwide

As co-chair of the Cannabis Caucus, I joined a press conference to call on Congress to legalize marijuana nationwide and establish a rational, just, and humane cannabis policy. We have the opportunity to build a cannabis system that’s rooted in fairness and economic opportunity for all people, not just the wealthy and well-connected.

Reintroducing My Bill to End Childhood Hunger

I joined Senator Bernie Sanders in re-introducing our Universal School Meals Program Act to ensure students can access free breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks year-round. No child should ever go hungry in the wealthiest nation in the world — our bill is a step toward making that future a reality.

Tackling Manufactured Home Evictions

Manufactured homeowners deserve the same stability, dignity, and protection as any other homeowner. Right now, too many families who own their homes are still one rent increase or park closure away from losing everything because they do not own the land beneath them. I was proud to join Senator Jeanne Shaheen in introducing the Frank Adelmann Manufactured Housing Community Sustainability Act to incentivize mobile home park owners to sell their property to the residents for the purposes of creating a cooperative.

Working to Fully Fund Workers’ Protections Agencies

Workers rely on agencies, like OSHA, to keep them safe on the job. Yet, Trump’s administration’s policies have cut the agency’s staffing down to a historic low. As Ranking Member of the Workforce Protections Subcommittee, I emphasized the need to fully fund and staff OSHA, and ensure it has the capacity to identify emerging safety and health issues before they hurt American workers.

Questioning Department of Education Secretary Linda McMahon on Her Student Loan Cap Policy

When you create policies that make education unreachable for Americans who want it, you are failing at your job. I questioned Education Secretary Linda McMahon on her decision to cap public student loans for degrees like nursing, teaching, social work, and other critical occupations. These caps will do nothing but make higher education more expensive and less accessible for students across the country.

Honoring Minnesota State Representative Erin Koegel on the House Floor

I was proud to recognize Minnesota State Representative Erin Koegel on the House Floor in honor of her decade of service in the Minnesota State House of Representatives. During her time in the state legislature, Rep. Koegel passed landmark transportation legislation to invest in roads, bridges, and transit, and expanded worker protections for pregnant and breastfeeding Minnesotans. I look forward to seeing the positive impacts of her work for years to come!
