Dear friend,

Yesterday, we passed the Equality Act in the House. This passage will move us one step closer to a future where every LGBTQ person can live their lives free from the fear of discrimination. I am proud to be an original co-sponsor of the legislation.

Tonight, we are voting on the new COVID relief package to provide much needed relief to Minnesotans and Americans across the country. This bill will provide essential relief to Minnesota, including $281 million for the Minneapolis metro and $4.722 billion in relief for Minnesota. It will also include direct checks to families, expanded unemployment assistance, vaccine funding, and rental assistance. I will continue to fight for much more relief to Minnesotans — including recurring checks, student loan cancellation, and rent and mortgage cancellation.

Coffee and Kulan: Democracy Reform

On March 16th at 5:30 CT, I’ll be hosting another “Coffee and Kulan” discussion on Democracy Reform with Minnesota Secretary of State, Steve Simon and Minnesota State Representative, Emma Greenman live on Facebook. I’m excited to talk with you about our efforts in Congress and in Minnesota to reform our democracy to make it work for the people. You can see the event details here.

Vaccine Connector

The Minnesota Department of Health launched the “Vaccine Connector Portal” where Minnesotans will be alerted when vaccines become available. You can find more information here.

USDA Farmers to Families

The Minneapolis Regional Labor Federation will hold two USDA Farmers to Families events. Both events will provide food to families in need. You can find more information here.

District 5 Work Week

I came to Congress on a promise of co-governance. As your Congresswoman, I do not only want to represent Minnesotans — I want to govern with you. Last week, we had a jam-packed week in the district, and I wanted to share some of the highlights with you. You can check out my schedule here.

Fighting for More Opportunities for BIPOC Students to Intern on Capitol Hill

For far too long, BIPOC students have been disproportionately underrepresented in Capitol Hill internships. Rep. Jayapal and I are fighting to change this by removing financial barriers that have stopped students from interning by allowing telework. You can read more here.

Hennepin County Board Meeting

Last week, I met with the Hennepin County board to discuss ways we can collaborate and bring meaningful change to our district. We talked about ways we can improve housing, healthcare, and transit in our county. I can’t wait to see the great things they will accomplish for our community.

In service,

Ilhan Omar
Member of Congress
