The House’s Farm Bill Abandons America’s Children, Workers, and Farmers

4 min readMay 13, 2026

Dear Friend,

The House passed a Farm Bill that utterly fails to address the needs of Americans — putting corporate profits over working families, children, and farmers. This bill does nothing to reverse the $186 billion cut made to SNAP through the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” leaving over four million Americans without access to the support they need to put food on the table. It’s shameful.

I introduced five amendments to reform our agriculture and nutrition policies to guarantee that no child goes hungry at school, prioritize workers’ safety in the food processing industry, and ensure we’re doing all we can to end hunger here at home and end the global food crisis. You can read more about my amendments here.

I was disappointed that none of my amendments were included. I will always put working families over big corporations looking to profit at the expense of the American people. I could not in good conscience vote for this bill.

Opposing Conservatives’ Bill to Send ICE $70 Billion

I spoke on the House Floor in opposition to conservatives’ bill to send an additional $70 billion to ICE and Border Patrol. These rogue agencies murdered two Minnesotans in broad daylight. ICE should not get another cent. It should be abolished.

May Day Parade in Minneapolis

My office connected with Fifth District community members at the May Day celebrations in Powderhorn Park. The creativity, joy, and solidarity reinvigorates us in the fight for fair wages, benefits, and the right to collectively bargain for all workers!

Hosting our Annual CD5 Legislative Breakfast

We hosted our annual legislative breakfast at the Capitol in St. Paul with leaders from across the First District and the POCI/Queer Caucus. Together, we work to coordinate our efforts to push back against the Trump Administration’s policies making Minnesotans’ lives harder and more expensive.

Working to Save Hennepin County Medical Center

Hennepin County Medical Center is a lifeline. I know this personally — three of my kids were born there. Conservatives’ cuts to Medicaid are pushing hospitals like HCMC to the brink. Minnesota cannot lose its safety net hospital. I joined a press conference with Minnesota State Rep. Esther Agbaje and other Minnesota leaders to emphasize the importance of saving this critical community resource.

Reading with First Graders at Lucy Craft Laney Elementary School

I had the joy of meeting some amazing first graders at Lucy Craft Laney Elementary School in North Minneapolis. We had an interactive reading of “Jayden’s Impossible Garden.” Getting to meet the Fifth District’s brilliant students is my favorite part of the job. Because of them, our future is bright!

Working to Protect Funding for HIV Prevention, Care, and Treatment Services

I sat down with leaders and advocates from Clare Housing and Sage Advocacy & Services for LGBTQ+ Elders to ensure we’re doing everything we can to ensure the necessary HIV prevention, care, and treatment services are accessible to the folks that need them.

Hosting My Youth Council Town Hall

I hosted my first Youth Council Town Hall in Minneapolis to hear from high school students about their bold ideas to strengthen our communities. I’ll keep working in Congress to make their vision for our future a reality.

Thanking Our Spring 2026 Interns

Our spring interns wrapped up their internships in our DC and Minneapolis offices this week. We’re so grateful for their hard work serving the communities of the Fifth District, and we wish them the very best in their future endeavors!
