Standing With Minnesotans Against Trump’s Prosecution of Protestors
Dear Friend,
Happy Juneteenth! Today, we celebrate Black freedom, resilience, and achievement. As we move forward, we must continue our work to root out systemic racism wherever we find it and address the lasting consequences of slavery. Freedom is not always swift, but it is always worth the fight.
Last week, House Republicans shamefully passed a bill to send ICE another $70 billion to continue their racist terror campaigns across our country. Our neighbors are still struggling to afford gas and groceries. Yet, Republicans continue to hand over a slush fund to a rogue agency that’s murdered Minnesotans, ripped countless families apart, and trampled over thousands of Americans’ constitutional rights. I voted against this reprehensible legislation and will continue the fight to bring justice to every single family terrorized by ICE.
While the killers of Renée Good and Alex Pretti walk free, Trump’s Department of Justice is busy bringing bogus charges against protesters. This Administration still thinks intimidation will make us back down. But, they will keep learning the same lesson: Minnesotans don’t scare easily. We organize for our rights. We will not rest until every single ICE agent who abused their power is held accountable.

Strengthening Workplace Protections for Healthcare Workers
On the Workforce Protections Subcommittee, we held a hearing to analyze the effects of gig nursing and temporary staffing on our healthcare system. Our country’s healthcare crisis will not be fixed by misclassifying health workers and stripping them of their rights and benefits. We need to invest in workforce development programs, loan repayment assistance, and other measures to help strengthen our healthcare workforce.
Calling Out Republicans’ Attacks on Equity and Equality Policies in Our Education System
Republicans have been abusing their power to attack schools for their DEI programs. On the House Education and Workforce Committee, I emphasized that Republicans’ refusal to acknowledge our past is costing our kids a quality education. Tragic policy disasters like school segregation and privatization are not relics of the past, but rather the driving forces behind the worst achievement gaps in decades between Black and Brown students and their white peers.
Making It Easier for Workers to Collectively Bargain
I was proud to vote to pass the Faster Labor Contracts Act through the House! This bill will ban corporations from stalling contract negotiations with newly formed unions, making it easier for workers to collectively bargain for the protections they deserve.
Honoring Minnesota State Senator Ann Rest on the House Floor
I was proud to recognize Minnesota State Senator Ann Rest on the House Floor for over 40 years of service in our state legislature. Senator Rest has worked tirelessly to better the lives of all Minnesotans. She has left an incredible mark on my life and the lives of so many young Minnesota legislators. I’m wishing her the very best in her retirement!
