Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s briefing with Ambassador Geeta Rao Gupta, the U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues

Rep. Omar hosted a briefing with Ambassador Geeta Rao Gupta, the U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues, for the US-Africa Policy Working Group. Ambassador Rao Gupta briefed Working Group Members on the office’s work in Africa toward advancing women’s economic security; implementing the Women, Peace, and Security agenda; and combating gender-based violence including sexual violence. The group also discussed the importance of women’s participation in policymaking and peacebuilding; conflict-related sexual violence in Sudan, Ethiopia, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo; and the renewal of the African Growth and Opportunity Act.
