Our Boundary Waters Should Not Be For Sale

4 min readMay 12, 2026

Dear Friend,

Last week, Senate Republicans passed a bill that will open the door for a massive mining operation in our Boundary Waters. This legislation will allow for mining leases that will enable foreign companies to mine sulfide-ore copper from BWCA lands and sell them to the highest bidder on the global market. This operation will irreparably damage one of our most pristine ecosystems–all so corporations can profit.

On top of this massive betrayal of our public lands, the Trump Administration’s policy agenda has relentlessly rolled back our investments into renewable energy, while simultaneously ramping up fossil fuel production across our country. This month, I joined my colleagues in the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition to introduce the Energy Bill Relief Act. This bill will restore clean energy tax credits and ensure working families can access reliable, low-cost energy. I’ll keep working to put our planet above polluters and meet this moment with the urgency it demands.

Working Towards a Bold, Pro-Worker AI Agenda

We held a hearing in the House Workforce Protections Subcommittee on the integration of AI in the workplace. I emphasized the need to build a bold, pro-worker AI agenda that helps more workers join unions, places appropriate limits on AI, safeguards worker privacy, and enforces worker protections.

Speaking in Support of an Iran War Powers Resolution

I spoke on the House Floor in support of a War Powers Resolution to reassert Congress’s authority and stop this administration’s continued unauthorized attacks on Iran. As a survivor of war, I have seen what happens when the world looks away as violence spirals. This war has already taken over a dozen American lives, including Minnesota Sgt. 1st Class Nicole Amor. We cannot be silent. We cannot be complicit. Congress must end the war with Iran.

Calling Out the Trump Administration’s Policies for Enabling Bukele’s Human Rights Abuses in El Salvador

We held a hearing in the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission on Bukele’s use of a State of Exception in El Salvador to commit flagrant human rights abuses against the Salvadoran people–and the ways the Trump Administration’s policies are enabling him.

Honoring Dave Bicking on the House Floor

It was my honor to recognize the life and legacy of Dave Bicking on the House Floor. Dave dedicated his life to advancing justice and advocating for meaningful police reform in our state. He will be deeply missed.
