Dear friend,

The vaccine is our ticket back to normalcy. Our state is hitting milestones with vaccination rates and appointments. If you haven’t received your vaccine yet, you can find appointments here.

Ending Child Hunger

One in six children in Minnesota don’t know where their next meal will come from. I introduced the Universal School Meals Program Act which will provide free breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a snack to all school children regardless of income. The legislation will also eliminate school meal debt and strengthen local economies by incentivizing local food procurement. Read more here.

Ending Police Violence

Last week, I introduced a package of bills to address continued police brutality and misuse of force, in wake of the killing of Daunte Wright and the conviction of Derek Chauvin. The National Police Misuse of Force Investigation Board Act will establish a federal agency responsible for investigating all nationwide death occurring in police custody, officer-involved shootings and uses of force resulted in bodily injury. The Global Police Brutality Resolution calls on Congress to stand with peaceful protesters around the world in their calls for justice and accountability. Read more here.

Fighting for Protesters’ Rights

We must ensure that the constitutional right to protest is protected. I introduced the Criminalize Police Violence Against Protesters Act that will allow any officer who kills or causes bodily harm to a civilian during the response to a protest will be charged with a federal crime. You can read more here.

Fighting for a Livable Minimum Wage

In the Education and Labor Committee, I joined my colleagues to secure a federal minimum wage in our portion of the reconciliation bill. The tipped minimum wage $2.13/hour is a starvation wage, and it directly impacts women and workers of color. Watch my remarks here.
