Dear friend,

Every day I fight to make sure that people from all corners of the 5th District have a shot at the American Dream. This week, through the surface transportation and appropriations process, we have passed over $46 million in funding through the House for our district. The community projects include funding for a new Hennepin Healthcare Clinic on East Lake Street, skills training for clean energy careers, new workforce training in South Minneapolis, sprinkler updates for the Minnesota Public Housing Authority, funding for the Minneapolis American Indian Center, bike parks in Brooklyn Center, a new recreation and arts building in North Commons Park, updates to the Sabbathani community center, and funding for the Waadag Commons apartments in Seward. Passing 5 Amendments for the 5th District

I passed five amendments through the House of Representatives this week, along with ten community projects for Minnesota’s 5th District. Together, we have been able to pass multiple amendments that will move the needle on issues Minnesotans care about, from housing to education, economic development, First Amendment rights and more. It’s a reminder that we can propose bold solutions to the biggest challenges we face — from the climate crisis to housing and healthcare affordability — while also effectively securing amendments in major bills. Fighting for an Economy that Works for All of Us

Today, I introduced the Sending Unconditional Payments to People Overcoming Resistances to Triumph (SUPPORT) Act and the Genuine Progress Indicator (GPI) Act, legislation designed to build a 21st century economy that is reflective of Americans’ everyday needs. The bills will create a grant program to fund local income pilots and implement a national guaranteed income program and establish a new economic metric to measure well-being. Combating Islamophobia

Last week, I led a letter calling on Secretary of State, Antony Blinken to create a special envoy to combat Islamophobia. The letter addresses the rise in attacks against the Muslim community. The letter calls for a comprehensive strategy for establishing U.S. leadership in combating Islamophobia worldwide. You can watch my remarks from our press conference here.

Centering Human Rights in Foreign Policy

I reintroduced the Stop Arming Human Rights Abusers Act (SAHRAA) and the Global Migration Agreement Act. Part of my Pathway to Peace, the bills outline a bold progressive vision to rethink the country’s approach to foreign policy by centering human rights, justice and peace as the pillars of America’s engagement in the world and making military action a last resort.
