Join Me for my March Town Hall in Spring Lake Park this Monday!

Dear Friend,

For over a month now, Coast Guard, FEMA, and TSA have been operating under a partial government shutdown, working without pay. Now, it’s putting our aviation system at risk. Our airports are stretched thin. Folks across the country are reporting hours-long wait times at airports. And House Republicans have not yet brought the Senate’s deal to end the DHS shutdown onto the House Floor.

Late last night, the Senate passed a bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security, giving our TSA workers what they are owed, without giving any money to ICE or CBP. However, this deal isn’t perfect. Their agreement failed to guarantee any reforms to the way federal immigration enforcement operates — including a ban on masks, mandated body cameras, and required judicial warrants. ICE cannot continue to operate with complete impunity. While I’m pleased the passage of this funding would give federal workers the relief they need, I’ll keep fighting to hold ICE accountable.

Supporting American Boxers

I spoke in support of the Muhammad Ali Boxing Revival Act on the House Floor. This bill takes a step toward ensuring boxers are granted stronger baseline protections, like higher pay, better healthcare coverage, and stronger ringside medical protections. However, our work does not end here. We must keep working to give our athletes the economic freedom and agency they deserve.

Meeting with the Fifth’s Local Leaders

I met with city and community leaders from across the Fifth District to discuss ways we can work together to support our local priorities and bring meaningful change to our communities. I’m incredibly grateful to have such strong partners at the local level in the work to strengthen our North Star State.

Fighting to Modernize Federal Workers’ Compensation Programs

On the Workers’ Protection Subcommittee, we held a hearing on modernizing our federal worker’s compensation programs. We must ensure efforts to reform these crucial programs don’t come at the cost of the very protections and earned benefits injured workers rely on.

Calling for the End of the Oil Blockade in Cuba

The Trump Administration’s oil blockade in Cuba is strangling an entire nation. Families are going without food, water systems are failing, and hospitals are struggling to stay open. I spoke on the House Floor to call for an immediate end to this unconscionable blockade.

Working to Rein in our Pentagon Spending

This week on the Budget Committee, I emphasized the need to rein in our Pentagon spending as we look to stabilize our national deficit. Fiscal responsibility means nothing if it only applies to children, workers, seniors, and poor families, but never to war. Pentagon spending has to be on the table–especially for a Pentagon that has failed its audit every single year, with billions of dollars unaccounted for.

The Phenomenal Women of Minnesota’s Fifth District

As we wrap up Women’s History Month, I wanted to highlight the hard work of a few barrier-breaking women from our district. From championing progressive policies in Congress, growing a community through a small business, to shaping the minds of our future leaders in classrooms, these changemakers are creating a stronger future for our North Star State.
