January 2022: Protecting Voting Rights
Right now, COVID is surging across Minnesota. In Minneapolis, face masks are now required to enter businesses and places of public accommodation. It is up to us to remind our friends and family of how important it is to get vaccinated, boosted, and tested regularly, as our actions can directly impact the lives of those we love most. We will get through this together.
Calling to Close Guantanamo Bay Prison
The Guantanamo Bay prison is a moral stain on our country. The Department of Defense spends half-a-billion dollars a year to keep Guantanamo open, despite our calls to shut the facility down for good. The ongoing detention goes against the most basic standards of justice, and continues to damage lives and our reputation around the world. You can read my op-ed here.
Protecting Voting Rights
Protecting your right to vote is how we save our democracy. This week, the House passed the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act, which will protect voting rights and access for all Americans. Now, we must end the filibuster in the Senate in order to protect the sacred right to vote.
