First US-Africa Policy Working Group Member Briefing on the Ongoing Situation in Sudan
Congresswoman Ilhan Omar chaired the first briefing of the US-Africa Policy Working Group, focusing on the crisis in Sudan. Members heard expert analysis from Magdi Amin, a former advisor to the civilian government’s Ministry of Finance, and Abdullahi Halakhe, the senior advocate for East and Southern Africa at Refugees International. Mr. Amin and Mr. Halakhe briefed the Members on the dire humanitarian situation, and possible U.S. policy responses. The Members also heard from Ambassador Mohammed Idris of Sudan and Ambassador Gordon Buay of South Sudan for a frank exchange of views on the on-going conflict.
