Fighting For The 5th During the Coronavirus Pandemic
My top priority is making sure members of our community are taken care of. Thousands of our neighbors are struggling mightily during this difficult time. My office and I have been working diligently to provide much needed support to all those impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. In the last few weeks, we have assisted those returning home from abroad, seeking unemployment insurance, applying for federal grants, and accessing federal relief payments.

Cynthia’s Story:
“I contacted Representative Omar’s office to see what help she might give me for my sister Valerie, stranded on a Covid-infected cruise ship off the coast of South America. Representative Omar and her staff offered me and my family needed moral support, and contacted the Carnival Corporation to extract post-disembarkation commitments for the care and safe return home of both passengers and crew. These commitments from the industry were crucial in the negotiations with local officials in the Florida port where they eventually disembarked.”
Cristine’s Story:
“Words cannot express the gratitude I have and renewed faith that government can impact. Gratitude for the friend who suggested to call our representative to assist with my 18 year old stuck in Ecuador, my first call was to the Embassy and every airline. The Embassy was of NO help but Omar’s office was responsive and compassionate amidst the chaos of everything else. Emails returned and information shared, I felt heard and while hard to wait she did return home.”
People’s Center Story:
Our office was able to assist the People’s Center in Minneapolis secure a grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration, which will allow them to continue providing affordable, high quality care to our community.
