Congress Must Pass an Iran War Powers Resolution

3 min readMay 12, 2026

Dear Friend,

Last week, Donald Trump posted the following message to Truth Social:

“A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again.”

The destruction of civilian infrastructure basic to life, such as electricity, drinking water, sewage and other public services is in violation of the Geneva Conventions. This kind of rhetoric is utterly unacceptable. Congress must reconvene to pass a War Powers Resolution to stop this administration’s continued policies that have led to unauthorized attacks on Iran. We cannot allow this reckless foreign policy to become our new normal. It’s time to impeach and remove.

Hosting my March Town Hall in Spring Lake Park

One of the ways I uphold my promise of cogovernance is by hosting monthly town halls. At these community conversations, I’m able to hear directly from you and take your priorities straight to the People’s House. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who joined me for my March Town Hall in Spring Lake Park. I want to send a special thank you to Minnesota State Senator Mary Kunesh, State Rep. Erin Koegel, and Spring Lake Park City Councilmember April Moran for joining me to share updates on their work at the local level.

Visiting the University of Minnesota’s Nutritious U Food Pantry

I joined Hennepin County Commissioner Angela Conley and student government leaders for a tour of the University of Minnesota’s Nutritious U Food Pantry and to learn more about the facility’s recent expansion. I spoke with University leaders about with the work they’re doing to address food insecurity among students and community members, and how I can best support their work in Congress.

Securing Federal Funding to Combat Homelessness in the Fifth District

I was proud to secure $850,000 in federal funding for Avivo Village, an indoor, tiny home community designed to be a safe alternative to outdoor encampments. This funding will be used to expand Avivo’s center. I’ll keep working to invest in affordable housing for the folks who need it most.

Touring Touring Minneapolis’s First Mobile Medical Unit

It was great to visit Minneapolis’s first Mobile Medical Unit and talk to the incredible staff members! They provide private, dignified care, treatment, and resources directly to our communities hit hardest by addiction and chronic illness. I’m working in Congress to expand access to essential health services for folks who face barriers to accessing traditional care.

Addressing the Impacts of “Operation Metro Surge”

I was honored to join Mujeres Activas en Letras y Cambio Social at the University of Minnesota for a panel to share the legislative work we’re doing at all levels of government to address the impacts of “Operation Metro Surge” on our community. I won’t stop fighting until we abolish ICE.

In Solidarity,
