August 2021: Fighting Housing Insecurity

Dear friend,

No one should face housing insecurity. If you are behind on rent or know anyone who is behind, go to http://RentHelpMN.org to apply for assistance. This resource can help protect you from eviction due to nonpayment.

Fighting Housing Insecurity

Last week, President Biden announced the CDC will extend the eviction moratorium. This win would not have been possible without the bold, steadfast leadership from progressives. I was proud to join Rep. Cori Bush and so many other Members of Congress and organizers who continued to push the Administration to act. While this new moratorium on evictions is welcome, this is just a start and will only provide a temporary solution to the mass eviction crisis. That’s why I won’t stop fighting until we end housing insecurity once and for all. You can read more here.

Restoring and Expanding the Minneapolis American Indian Center

Last week, I visited the American Indian Center to discuss the impact of the $3 million in community project funding we advanced in the House. The funding will be used for restoring, preserving, and expanding the existing Minneapolis facility. During the visit, I discussed the impact this funding will have on the Center’s ability to serve our community, home to one of the largest urban Indian populations in the country.

Delivering for Minnesotans and the American People

This week the Senate passed the bipartisan infrastructure bill. This is a major step towards getting Minnesotans the assistance they need. We need a bold package that adequately funds mass transit, caregiving, housing, workforce development, and tackles the climate crisis. I’m committed to ensuring we deliver transformative change for Minnesotans and the American people. You can hear more of my views in my interview with NPR’s Morning Edition here.

Calling for the Immediate Closure of Guantanamo Bay

The prison at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay is a moral stain on our country. It’s way past time we end this monument to cruelty and torture. I’m proud to have partnered with Rep. Adam Schiff and Rep. David E. Price, and 70+ of our colleagues on a letter to President Biden calling for the immediate closure of the prison. You can read more here.
